FAQ

What is the PUC?

The PUC is a WiFi MIDI interface designed to allow users to connect MIDI instruments to wirelessly connect to their iPad, iPhone, Mac, or compatible PC software.

What can I do with the PUC?

The PUC allows users to use their favorite MIDI hardware (keyboards, synths, drum pad controllers, DJ controllers, floorboard controllers, etc.) to control synth, sampler, and recording apps in iPads and iPhones without having to use a hardware MIDI dongle in your 30-pin or Lightning port. You can keep your iPad or iPhone where you want it, not tethered to a dongle and wire within 3 feet of your controller.

The PUC also enables users to wirelessly connect to their Mac or compatible PC to free their studio or live rigs from unnecessary MIDI cables tangling up the performance. Logic, ProTools, Live, Cubase, Sonar, Reaper - the PUC can wirelessly connect to all of them.

Where can I purchase a PUC?

The PUC is available on the jamstik Store Website at jamstik.com. We will be expanding to retail stores late 2014.

Does the PUC support Android?

Android platform compatibility is driven by Android hardware and Android’s software prioritization of audio and MIDI. Currently, Android devices aren’t performing to the standards musical applications require, so in brief the PUC isn’t currently Android compatible. That being said, the PUC doesn’t distinguish what device its wirelessly connected to - so when Android adds MIDI and improved audio handling to their OS - the PUC is ready to play.

Does the PUC require any special software for iOS, OSX, or PC?

The PUC currently uses two wireless protocols for connectivity to iOS, OSX, or PC. The first is RTPMIDI which is a standard connection protocol for using MIDI in a networked platform. The PUC can connect via RTPMIDI without the use of any additional software. The second protocol the PUC can use for connectivity is our proprietary Z-Fi code. Z-Fi is something Zivix developed for better MIDI and wireless performance, and currently it’s only available for iOS via the use of our PUC Connect app on the iTunes app store (LINK). Z-Fi drivers are currently being developed for OSX and Windows and should be available soon.

How do I connect my PUC to my mobile device?

If you are using any iOS device to connect your PUC, you will need to download the PUC Connect App on the App Store and follow the onscreen instructions. For further walkthroughs and to get the latest driver updates, please visit the downloads page.
